Dr. Jerry Alexander, Jr.
The Reverend Doctor Jerry B. Alexander, Jr. of St. Petersburg, Florida is the son of Reverend Jerry B. Alexander, Sr. (Pastor of Union Missionary Baptist Church, St. Petersburg, FL) and Jenial Alexander. He is the father of one daughter, Tion McNeil.
On January 5, 2013, he was united in holy matrimony with his beloved, the lovely Sabrenia Lee.
Reverend Alexander became filled with the holy spirit during childhood. At 9 years of age, he accepted Christ and was baptized. In 1991 (age 19) he was called to the Ministry and Licensed to preach the Gospel. In 1993 he was Ordained at Bethel Metropolitan Baptist Church, St. Petersburg, FL under the leadership of Dr. Henry J. Lyons.
A graduate of Osceola High School in Seminole, FL., he went on to pursue Theological training. Reverend Alexander received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible Education from Clearwater Christian College, Clearwater, Fl (1999); both the Master of Theology and the Doctor of Theology degrees from the Andersonville Theological Seminary, Camilla, GA (2013 and 2016, respectively). In 2017 he has conferred the Honorary Doctor of Divinity from the Oval Bible College, Lake Charles, LA.
As a young minister, pastor, teacher, and leader, Rev. Dr. Alexander had served diligently as Associate Minister at Pleasant Grove MBC (St. Petersburg, FL), Youth Pastor of Greater Mt. Pleasant MBC (Tallahassee, FL), Associate Pastor at Mt. Moriah MBC (Palm Bay, FL), Interim Pastor of Mt. Pilgrim MBC (St. Petersburg, FL) and Pastor’s Assistant and Associate Pastor at Bethel Metropolitan Baptist Church (St. Petersburg, FL). In 2005 he was called as Pastor of New Pleasant Grove Baptist Church (St. Petersburg, FL), where he faithfully served for 5 years. For 7 years (2011-2018) Rev. Alexander was Pastor of Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Arcadia, FL.
Reverend Alexander has served in several official positions with the state and local Baptist arena. They include Executive Asst. to the President of the National Baptist Congress, USA, Inc, Christian Education Coordinator of the NBC, USA, Inc. Also, Board Member of the Florida General Baptist Convention, Inc., past Moderator of the South Central Florida Baptist Association, past Recording Secretary and currently, General Secretary of the Florida General Baptist Convention, Inc.
With a passion for civic and community involvement, Rev. Alexander has been a viable force of Christian leadership in several organizations: President/Founder of Youth Gospel Alliance, Board Member of the Pinellas Boys Scouts of America; Director of Religious Affairs with Melbourne, FL Branch of the N.A.A.C.P., Inc., President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Desoto County, FL and Chaplain of the Arcadia Police Department.
A noted preacher, teacher, and lecturer, Rev. Alexander has traveled throughout the state and country spreading the gospel through sermons, seminars, revivals, and evangelism.
On August 25, 2019, the church body voted in Rev. Dr. Jerry B. Alexander, Jr. as Pastor-elect of the historical Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church (Ocala, FL)--- succeeding the esteemed Rev. Dr. Lorenzo S. Edwards, Sr., who retired after fifty (50) years pastorate of Mt. Moriah. Ready to begin his new ministry, Rev. Alexander preached his first sermon as Pastor-elect on September 1, 2019, and led Bible Study the following Wednesday evening. He was affirmed as Pastor in church conference on September 4, 2019. On Sunday, November 17, 2019, the Rev. Dr. Jerry B. Alexander, Jr. was officially installed as the fourteenth (14th) pastor in the 152 years history of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church.
Mt. Moriah is experiencing spiritual and physical growth --- worship and praise are exuberant, membership is growing and ministries are being expanded. Wednesday Bible Study and Prayer Service is now “Impact Wednesday” and has a steady increase in attendance.
A favorite life scripture of Rev. Alexander is Colossians 3:23: “And whatsoever ye do do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” He rejoices in the metered-hymn, “Father I Stretch My Hands to Thee” and the all-time favorite, “Near the Cross”.
